Thanks to the work of three GLLC members — Illinois Sen. Laura Ellman, Rep. Sonya Marie Harper and Rep. Joyce Mason — the Illinois House and Senate have successfully passed resolutions in support of creation of a U.S. Great Lakes Waterfront Trail.

SR 230 and HR 479 acknowledge the importance of creating a companion trail to Canada’s existing Great Lakes Waterfront Trail. Illinois has 63 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, most of which has trail access for cyclists and pedestrians. The resolutions urge Illinois state agencies to continue coordinating with the other Great Lakes states on establishment of a regional, multi-state trail.

The GLLC is a supporter of the Great Lakes Waterfront Trail; CSG Midwest provides secretariat services to the program.
