2025 MLC Education & Workforce Committee Meeting

In conjunction with the 79th Annual Meeting of the Midwestern Legislative Conference (MLC), the MLC Education & Workforce Committee will hold its 2025 Meeting on Sunday, July 27, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

In addition to traditional committee business and time allotted for a roundtable discussion with all attendees, this meeting will include a presentation on the efforts states and provinces are making to expand coding and computer science education in K-12 schools. The MLC Annual Meeting also will feature two policy sessions featuring issues relevant to the committee. On Monday, July 28, there will be an afternoon session that comparing and contrasting how the United States and Canada are recruiting and retaining legal immigrant labor in order to help close short- and long-term workforce shortages. On Tuesday, July 29, another session will explore how policymakers can effectively set guidelines so that AI technologies are used safely and ethically in the classroom setting.

The MLC Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee meets at least once a year as part of the MLC Annual Meeting, most recently in Columbus, Ohio, in 2024 and Detroit in 2023. Other committee-led activities include hosting webinars and in-person workshops for legislators, developing policy resources and providing individualized research assistance.
