2026 MLC Education & Workforce Committee Meeting

In conjunction with the 80th Annual Meeting of the Midwestern Legislative Conference (MLC), the MLC Education & Workforce Committee will hold its 2026 Meeting on Sunday, August 30, in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

In addition to traditional committee business and time allotted for a roundtable discussion with all attendees, this meeting will include a presentation on state efforts to increase postsecondary degree and credential attainment among working adults. The meeting will also highlight recent steps being taken by Midwestern states to improve the return on investment that students gain from pursuing postsecondary education and training. The MLC Annual Meeting will also offer several other policy sessions featuring issues relevant to the committee. This includes a keynote address on the effective integration of education and AI delivered by Khan Academy CEO, Sal Khan, and a plenary session on recent advancements in literacy education instruction.

The MLC Education & Workforce Committee meets at least once a year as part of the MLC Annual Meeting, most recently in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, in 2025 and Columbus in 2024. Other committee-led activities include hosting webinars and in-person workshops for legislators, developing policy resources and providing individualized research assistance.
